Methods of Training & Education
Paramedics are trained to monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, pulse oximetry, invasive and non-invasive blood pressure, end-tidal capnometry and blood glucose levels.
They are experts in the transport of patients who are on a ventilator, on multiple medication infusions, require an intra-aortic balloon pump or BIVAD (Bi-Ventricular Assist Device), require specialized orthopedic/neurological transportation and have central or other indwelling catheters.
Paramedics are also experienced in neonatal/premature infant intensive care transportation to specialty referral neonatal facilities including patients requiring tertiary care, ECMO and cardiac surgical intervention and pediatric intensive care transportation.
